After a brief training session and the delivery of a new suit by the returning underground crime boss, The Bowery King (portrayed by Laurence Fishburne), John takes the fight to the High Table in a shocking and awe-inspiring manner. This sets off a chain reaction that not only keeps him firmly in the crosshairs of the enigmatic ruling body but also has dire consequences for Winston (Ian McShane), the manager of the New York Continental, and his steadfast concierge, Charon (Lance Reddick).
The High Table’s newest offensive against John and his dwindling roster of allies is led by the Marquis de Gramont (played by Bill Skarsgård), a man with vast resources and armies of killers at his disposal. Nevertheless, he sends two more deadly adversaries in pursuit of John. The first is a fringe assassin known only as The Tracker (portrayed by Shamier Anderson), whose old-school methods and canine companion belie his single-minded focus on claiming the bounty. The second is Caine (Donnie Yen), an old friend of John’s who has been coerced back into the High Table’s service by threats against his daughter.
Once the game is afoot, the film takes John on a journey from New York City – where the majority of the saga has thus far taken place – to destinations like Jordan, Berlin, Osaka, and Paris. The latter features three awe-inspiring sequences that blend comedy and stylized choreography in equal measure. Throughout it all, Stahelski’s expertise in crafting fresh, innovative action sequences remains evident.
Keanu Reeves once again delivers a tour-de-force performance as John Wick, imbuing the character with the same level of conviction, intensity, and heart that has endeared him to audiences. The rest of the cast also performs admirably, with Ian McShane’s portrayal being a particular standout.
